ASEAN-IPR Participation in 58th ASEAN Day Open House
08 August 2025
ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia
The ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR), with the generous support from the Permanent Mission of the Lao PDR to ASEAN, participated in 58th ASEAN Day Celebrations Open House by setting up an information booth at the Heritage Building of the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat, on Friday, 8 August 2025.
This year’s ASEAN Day carried the theme “Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable ASEAN Future”, with celebrations taking place in two cities, Jakarta and Osaka, the latter taking place at the World Expo in Japan.
The ASEAN-IPR booth was honoured to welcome a number of dignitaries, including Indonesia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Sugiono, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Arrmanatha Nasir, Secretary-General of ASEAN H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN H.E. Derry Aman.
Other notable included members of the ASEAN-IPR Governing Council, representatives from Missions to ASEAN such as Australia, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (DSG-ASCC) and Indonesia’s ASEAN SOM Leader.
The booth showcased the Institute’s work to date, including its video profile and highlights from past activities in research projects, training and capacity-building, outreach, discussion series, and other initiatives. Visitors were also provided with a range of publications (available in print or digitally) – such as the ASEAN-IPR pamphlet, the ASEAN-IPR Annual Report 2024, research project reports, ASEAN-IPR Youth Conference on Peace & Tolerance, and the Peace Poems compilation.
Most notably, ASEAN-IPR’s booth at the Heritage Building attracted ASEAN Day guests from various walks of life – such as diplomats, students/academes, civil society, fellow ASEAN bodies/centres/entities and like-minded institutions as well as members of the public. Visitors engaged with the Institute through interactive games such as a fortune wheel and lucky draws, which featured questions about ASEAN-IPR’s work and general ASEAN knowledge. Those who answered correctly received exclusive ASEAN-IPR merchandise and selected publications.
Visitors were also encouraged to write on the “Wall of Peace,” where they could share their hopes and wishes for peace in ASEAN. One youth representative wrote: “My hope for ASEAN is to strengthen its relationships across various sectors, such as culture, climate change, education, and health. I hope all youths get the same chances to pursue their hopes and dreams. ASEAN, we are one!” The Wall of Peace is now on display at ASEAN-IPR Secretariat – and will be made available for future visitors to continue contributing their well wishes and vision to.
